If you are on my mailing list, which you automatically are if you subscribe here and thank you, some of this will be redundant.

My friend, Rich Morey and I got together this summer to record a single. I present you with my bandcamp link to Shimmer of Light:

In new news — next Wednesday, the 24th, will be the one year anniversary of Open Notes. Rich agreed to be the featured artist. And we’ll perform Shimmer of Light  live together. I can’t wait! So if you can get to the Kentlands in Gaithersburg Wednesday night, feel free to join us. There are always amazing open mic performers of poetry, prose, and music.

I drafted Shimmer of Light in April of ‘24. The solar eclipse that month influenced the imagery in the second verse. The song was initially motivated by a discussion I had with Grace Cavalieri. She asked me about challenges I face in the concept of home and was delighted to receive a response she had not heard before. I explored my evolving perceptions on home in songwriting. Also, Rich had sent me a video about using internal rhymes in songs and I used Shimmer of Light as an opportunity to practice that. This made it especially fitting that this was my song that Rich and I decided to record.

Rich is a talented musician, soulful singer-songwriter, poet, and friend, as well as producer. Recording with him was one of the most fun and easy things I’ve done. And the open exchange of ideas and suggestions elevated the process and song. I’m grateful for the time and attention he spent on Shimmer of Light and for everyone who’s checked it out. Thank you.
